An abundance of Garnet can be found around the world; Russia and Bohemia were major sources in the 19th century, now a large abundance of garnet is sourced from Tanzania and Namibia. It is a significant stone from ancient times and still makes a statement when worn today. The name “Garnet” is derived from the Latin word “Garanatus,” which translates to “pomegranate seed.” It was compared to this fruit because of the rich red color the stone is commonly known for. With that, typically garnet is compared to the color red, but it is actually a very diverse stone and can be found in a variety of colors from green, pink, orange, yellow, brown and even black. This special stone is linked to success and loyalty. Not only does garnet make a gorgeous statement piece when worn, but it is also considered to be a stone with healing properties and can enhance and inspire friendship and passion!
A fun fact that sets the stone apart from other gemstones is that there are actually 5 species of garnet. They all have the same crystal structure, but they slightly vary in chemical compound. Those species include: Almandine, Andradite, Grossularite, Pyrope, and Spessartine.
